Addo Elephant National Park Marine Protected Area

The Addo Elephant National Park Marine Protected Area came into effect on 01 August 2019.

Please ensure that you are aware of all the regulations pertaining to the Addo Elephant National Park Marine Protected Area (see map) and that you are in possession of the relevant permits should you be undertaking any activities requiring such. Permit applications can be done at Addo’s Matyholweni Rest Camp near Colchester. Enquiries: 081 834 3315

Sundays and Cannon Rocks Inshore Controlled Zones (SICZ and CRICZ)

  • Swimming and snorkelling allowed
  • Dogs on leads
  • Fishing with permit (MLRA*)
  • No fishing from vessel

Cape Padrone Inshore Controlled Zone (CPICZ)

  • Swimming
  • No diving, snorkelling or prohibited gear
  • Dogs with permit (apply at Woody Cape)
  • Fishing with permit (MLRA*)
  • No fishing from vessel

Sundays Inshore Restricted Zone (SIRZ)

  • No entry without permit (SANParks)
  • No fishing or spear guns
  • No diving, snorkelling or prohibited gear

St Croix Offshore Restricted Zone (StCORZ)

  • No fishing
  • No anchoring
  • Minimum vessel speed of five knots
  • Fishing gear stowed
  • Scuba diving with permit (SANParks)
  • Keep distance of 300m away from islands

Bird Island Offshore Restricted Zone (BIORZ)

  • No fishing
  • No anchoring
  • Minim vessel speed of five knots
  • Fishing gear stowed
  • Keep distance of 300m away from islands
  • No spearguns, diving or prohibited gear

Sundays and Cannon Rocks Offshore Controlled Zones (SOCZ and CROCZ)

  • Fishing with permit (MLRA*)
  • No firearms

Sundays Estuary Controlled Zone (SECZ)

  • Fishing with permit

Sunday Estuary Restricted Zone

  • No fishing
  • No skiing
  • No wake zone
